2 What are figures of speech?
writing that is not meant to be taken literally ex: similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole What are figures of speech?

ex: At two in the morning, the road was like a ribbon of moonlight. What is a simile?

4 A metaphor is also a comparison between two unalike things but does not use like or as
one thing is described as if it were something else ex: At two in the morning, the road was a ribbon of moonlight. What is a metaphor?

5 What is personification?
a nonhuman object or idea is given human characteristics ex: The wind sang a cheerful tune outside my window. The rain danced on the roof. What is personification?

6 an exaggeration made on purpose (intended exaggeration) ex: It was so cold even the polar bears were wearing scarves and hats! What is hyperbole?

7 Why do writers use figurative language in their writing?
