1 Designer Drugs/Club Drugs
Club drugs are synthetic, illegal drugs produced in underground labs that change the molecular structure of an existing drug to create a new substance and sold on the street. Some examples of these drug include: Ecstasy, GHB, Rohypnol, & Ketamine

2 Ecstasy: MDMA It is part stimulant (similar to cocaine) and a hallucinogen (similar to LSD). Produces energy as well as distortions in time in perception and intensifies the sense of touch – “love drug”. Comes in pill, tablet or capsule and powder form Can interfere with the body’s ability to regulate temperature, cardiovascular failure, increase heart rate/blood pressure, nausea, blurred vision, and dehydration.

6 “Molly” It is a toxic mixture of unknown, lab created chemicals and is more dangerous because of this!!! It is easier to have a bad reaction on Molly because these chemicals are always changing! Only 13% of the “Molly” seized in the last FOUR years by the DEA ACTUALLY contained MDMA.

7 GHB What is it? What are its effects?
A depressant & was originally developed as a sleep-aid. Usually comes in an odorless liquid, but can be found in powder and capsule form. Effects are felts within ten minutes & effects lasts for 2-3 hours What are its effects? If mixed with alcohol GHB can slow breathing; can cause cardiovascular and respiration failure. A low dose of GHB = similar effects to alcohol; can make the user feel relaxed, happy, and sociable. A higher dose = user feeling dizzy and sleepy; may cause loss of consciousness.

13 Final facts about designer/club drugs
Because some club drugs are colorless, tasteless, and odorless, they can be added unobtrusively to beverages by individuals who want to intoxicate or sedate others. Mixing these drugs with alcohol is dangerous!!! (Alcohol will enhance the effects of these drugs and can cause cardiovascular failure) These drugs are know as “party pills” and may promise feelings of well being, but since they are synthetic drugs, we never know the purity or what substances are mixed together.
