Know your support services and engage other professionals to assess or make informed judgements about an individual pupil’s needs
Know what paperwork is required – the referral form, the record keeping
Know your local arrangements, including LSCB, and how to escalate any concerns or the level of support
Know the sources of funding available and how to access them
Be ambitious regarding achievement –use benchmarks, measure and monitor progress accurately, set and agree high expectations, celebrate
Involve parents, carers, other professionals
Make sure your school’s approach is compliant with any relevant legislation
Make sure all staff in your school are well trained to manage and meet needs inside and outside of the classroom
