1. This is an introductory slide added to the front of the briefing to explain why it has been posted on this WIKI.
My name is Robert Lewis and I support Bob Green in the DON CIO Office. In support of Bob Green, I attended a special session of the Federal CIO Council (18 Oct hrs) that covered the potentials and the realities of the Federal Data Reference Model (FDM) Version 1.5 that was delivered to the Federal Council on 17 Oct 2005 (yesterday) by a Cross-agency Federal level working group.
The Federal CIO Council now has until 17 Nov 2005 to vet issues before the model is sent to OMB, subsequently OMB intends to release their final version by 17 DEC 2005.
This is quick turn around that started today. Over the next 20 days Bob Green (Office of the DON CIO) will include this briefing in the package he will put out to the DON FDM/FNC Community for coordinated DON level comments back to the Federal Working Group.

The DRM is a framework whose primary purpose is to enable information sharing and reuse across the federal government via the standard description and discovery of common data and the promotion of robust data management practices.
