2. Snow Sunday Afternoon into Monday
A strong low pressure system will track northeast along the NC coast Sun evening into early Monday morning. Given the forecast strength of the system heavy snow fall is possible which could result in heavy bands of snow accumulation.

Winds will gust over 30 mph Sunday night into Monday. The combination of gusty winds and snow could limit visibilities to less than a half mile early Monday morning. Wind chills will fall into the low teens.

3. Snowfall Amounts
Given the forecast intensity of the storm system a band of heavy snow could set up over Central NC from Raleigh west to the Triad or Boone. The exact location of the potential heavy snow band will depend highly on the track of the storm system which may shift further west.

4. Probability of > 4 inches of snow
Bands of heavy snow are possible from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning.
Areas most likely to receive the higher amounts of snow include portions of Central and Western NC (outlined in red on map)

5. Issues and Concerns
Wintery precipitation will come in waves with a round of a mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain Sunday afternoon after 2pm. A second round of snow will occur overnight. The event could end as a period of light freezing rain around daybreak Monday.
Given the type of strong system snowfall rates in some locations could be heavy at times Sunday night. Heavier snowfall rates will be needed to produce significant accumulations due to the warm ground. Note: a change in the storm track of 50 miles in any direction will result in a shift in the snowfall.
There is still uncertainly with this system in the eventual track of the system and exact snowfall intensities. The eventual track of the storm and snowfall rates will determine local impacts.
