Acquire To achieve native or nativelike command of (a language or a linguistic rule or element). Example: I’ve acquired the skill to write a 5 paragraph essay correctly

Interpret To give or provide the meaning of, explain Example:
I interpret the theme of the book by using examples from the book.

Analogies Compares two things that are mostly different from each other but have some traits in common. Example: Her voice was cotton candy (sweet!) The classroom was a refrigerator (really cold!)

Allusions A passing or casual reference; an incidental mention of something, either directly or by implication Example: “He was a real Romeo with the ladies” a reference to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet

Comprehension Capacity of the mind to perceive and understand; power to grasp ideas; ability to know. Example: I comprehend what the story was trying to tell me

Analyze To examine critically, so as to bring out the essential elements or give the essence of. To examine carefully and in detail so as to identify causes, key factors, possible results, etc. Example: You will analyze the book Night to determine if Elie Wiesel forgave his captors.

Narrative A story or account of events, experiences, or the like, whether true or fictitious. Example: The narrative story of Night goes into detail about Elie Wiesel’s experience of being a prisoner of WWII

Perseverance Maintain a purpose despite difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement Example: I will persevere to overcome my fear of spiders
