Eyewitness to the life of Christ
Believed AFTER the resurrection
Wanted to write about their common salvation, but was compelled to appeal to them to contend earnestly for the faith
Purpose: Contend for the faith for ungodly have crept in unnoticed.

3. Recipients Believers (common salvation) vs. 3 The called vs. 1
Beloved in God the Father vs. 1
Kept for Jesus Christ vs. 1
Knew all things once for all vs. 5
Have love feasts vs. 12
Had heard the apostles’ words vs. 17
Had a most holy faith vs. 20
Ungodly had crept into their fellowship unnoticed vs. 4

4. Instructions Contend for the faith vs. 3
Remember the words spoken by the apostles vs. 17
Keep yourselves in the love of God vs. 21
Build yourselves up in the faith vs. 20
Pray in the Spirit vs. 20
Wait for Jesus’ mercy vs. 21
Have mercy on some, save others vs
Hate the pollution/stain of the flesh vs. 23

5. Ungodly Crept in among believers, unnoticed vs. 4
Marked out long beforehand for condemnation vs. 4
Turn God’s grace into licentiousness vs. 4
Deny Jesus, the only Master and Lord vs. 4
By dreaming, they defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile angelic beings vs. 8
Revile what they don’t understand vs. 10
They will be destroyed vs. 10

6. Ungodly
Although they are “hidden” among the believers, black darkness is reserved for them forever vs. 13
Do ungodly deeds in an ungodly way and speak harsh things against God vs. 15
Grumblers, finding fault, follow their own lusts vs. 16
Speak arrogantly and flatter to gain an advantage vs. 16
They are the mockers of the last time vs. 18

7. Ungodly They will cause divisions vs. 19 Worldly minded vs. 19
Devoid of the Spirit of God vs. 19
What are believers to do??????
Contend for the faith BECAUSE of these people
They creep in, unnoticed!!!
They cause divisions, do ungodly deeds and are devoid of the Spirit of God.
Do we have this in the church today?
