Our Aim Today “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta Introduce you to the Global Citizenship Program at WVC. Affirm the value of study abroad as an integral part of educating our students, especially through the Salzburg Seminar Program. Hear from student program alumni. 4 Seventh Annual Global Citizenship Conference The Faces of Genocide
Thursday, 12 April 2018: Holocaust Remembrance Day 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM West Valley College Campus Center

5 A Place of Remembrance The Conference will consist of:
A Stanford historian of genocide. A panel of genocide survivors. Exhibits about specific genocides in history. The reading of names of the victims. A student led art show, poetry reading, and choral performance. A reflection room where attendees can read biographies of victims and view testimonies of survivors. A Social Justice Fair. 6 WVC Study Abroad Program
When in Britain, drink tea as the Brits do… “When overseas you learn more about your own country, than you do the place you’re visiting.” – Clint Borgen …and you learn about yourself, too.

7 Goal of the Salzburg Program
To instill the desire, ability, and sense of empowerment on the part of the global citizen to affect positive change on their college campus, as well as their local and global communities. “You cannot go abroad without coming home a changed person.” - Anonymous 7

The conference takes place at the Schloss Leopoldskron Hotel in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria.

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustine An intensive seven day international experience to develop a better understanding of the processes and effects of globalization. Participants will understand the importance of being a global citizen, its core values, and how to integrate those values into one’s life and actions.

10 Plans for 2018 “Investment in travel is an investment in yourself.” – Mathew Karsten Award approximately 30 scholarships to students Faculty-led student trips to Finland and the Baltics Dominican Republic/Haiti Barcelona, Spain London, England Japan Send 16 students to Salzburg.
