OPEN access Open in order to maximise visibility

2 Open access (oa) “By ‘open access’ to literature (peer-reviewed research and unreviewed preprints), we mean free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.”

3 University of Limpopo (UL) and OA
The University of Limpopo has signed the Berlin Declaration in support of OA. The University through the Library as the custodian of information has the Institutional repository where school Journals, conference proceedings, thesis and dissertations can be hosted to be accessible OA.

4 Green route to oa Green OA is defined as authors’ self-archiving of their articles on their own website or in open repositories e.g. An academic repository like our UL Space.

5 Gold route to oa. The Gold OA, sometimes also referred to as “publisher-provided OA”, is broadly defined as making articles OA through journals or publishers.
