3 Chromatography I have participated in practical activities to separate simple mixtures of substances and can relate my findings to my everyday experience. SCN 2-16a I can differentiate between pure substances and mixtures in common use and can select appropriate physical methods for separating mixtures into their components. 4 Chromatography The mixture is dissolved in a fluid called the "mobile phase“. This carries it through a structure holding another material called the "stationary phase". The various constituents of the mixture travel at different speeds, causing them to separate.
