1 Slide 2 = Quote and Annotations

2 “We may stay here till we die
“We may stay here till we die.” With that word the heat began to increase till it became a threatening weight and the lagoon attacked them with a blinding effulgence. (1.125)

3 Foreshadowing – though Piggy means that they will be there for along time, until they die, one can not help but echo these words when Piggy is killed. Piggy and Ralph don’t know if anybody else is on the island at this point “We may stay here till we die.” With that word the heat began to increase till it became a threatening weight and the lagoon attacked them with a blinding effulgence. (1.125) Pathetic fallacy – the weather appears hotter – all of a sudden the boys feel the “weight” of the heat. The “weight” is a metaphor used to describe the pressure, fear and responsibility that is now cast upon the boys. The lagoon is “highlighted” here – it is so bright that rays of light seem to be shining out of it. This could symbolise the lagoon’s importance as a place of safety – they boys bathe there, cleansing themselves. It is also a place of beauty and the meetings take place next to it.

4 Sorry I’m not here to say Merry Christmas! See you in 2016!
Please save your work as your last name and in the Year 11 Quotes Folder Sorry I’m not here to say Merry Christmas! See you in 2016! This can be accessed by choosing “Save as” and then selecting “Student Shared Area”, followed by “English”, “Mr Gordon” and then “Year 11 Quotes”

5 Lord Of The Flies "Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things." "A chief! A chief!" "I ought to be chief," said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp." ( )

6 This quote shows the theme of power, Ralph and Jack obviously see themselves as leaders of the group, but this idea of a chief is what starts off the aggressive behaviour amongst the group. "Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things." "A chief! A chief!" "I ought to be chief," said Jack with simple arrogance, "because I'm chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp." ( ) They all seem to just want to be better than eachother. The word arrogance is used to show the savagery amongst the group. There is a theme of civilisation because they want a chief which would create order between the boys. On the other hand, there is a hint of savagery because there are comments like “shut up” and the fact that they are arguing over who will take this role.

7 Blood Brothers “You never put new shoes on the table”

8 “You never put new shoes on the table”
The fact that at this point Mrs Lyons finds out that Mrs Johnston is superstitious and she then uses this against Mrs Johnston when asking her for one of her children and it works “You never put new shoes on the table” This shows a theme of superstition

9 I CANT FIND ANY QUOTES AND I DON’T HAVE THE BOOKS AND ITS STRESSING ME OUT SO IM DOING IT AT LUNCH IN YOUR CLASSROOM Ty, Ella
