1 Introduction of 60m amateur band
Chu Haoyuan 9V1HY

2 History The 60 meter band or 5 MHz band was first introduced in 2002 in a few contries. At WRC-12, Resolution 649 was ratified as being placed on the Agenda for the following WRC in 2015 (WRC-15). This resolution invited WRC- 15 to consider "Possible allocation to the amateur service on a secondary basis at around 5300 kHz ( kHz)". At WRC-15, a worldwide frequency allocation of – kHz to the Amateur Service on a secondary basis. 5.A14 Stations in the amateur service using the frequency band kHz shall not exceed a maximum radiated power of 15 W (e.i.r.p.) (WRC-15) The ITU allocation comes into effect from January 1, 2017

3 Countries with 60m allocation
Offical allocation Experimental Emergency Specific operations

4 Countries with 60m allocation
In region 3: Australia and New Zealand - Emergency only Bangladesh - Experimental Samoa - Follows US Hong Kong

6 Band plan US: 5 channels kHz UK: segments between kHz Other countries have different band plan between kHz

7 Band plan Worldwide: 5351.5–5366.5 kHz, 15W EIRP 5351.5-5354 5354 5357
5360 5363 CW, narrow digital modes USB, All modes Weak signal, narrow band 200Hz 2.7kHz 20Hz UK channel US channel UK channel DATA

9 Propagation Lying approximately halfway between 80m (3.5 MHz) and 40m (7 MHz). Often needed in emergency communication scenarios. Less affected by D-Layer absorption than 80m.

10 Propagation Ideal candidate for Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS). Local-to-medium distance HF communications (>200km). Information about the Critical Frequency (foF2) of the Ionosphere at any one time is highly important for setting up and maintaining reliable NVIS radio links.
