Today I am learning how to determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text because it will help me analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others.

4. What is Nonfiction Point of View?
Most articles have facts and opinions.
Nonfiction point of view is how the writer / author feels about the topic in the text. When writers let their opinion show in texts it is called biased point of view

5. How is Point of View (Bias) Shown?
It’s ALL about Word Choice. Authors describe people, places, things, and events. Some describing words are positive. Some—neutral. Others—negative.

6. Author’s Purpose
It’s important to know what the author wants from you, the reader. The author’s point of view leads directly to the author’s purpose. The writer could be trying to persuade you to believe something, inform or teach something, explain something, describe something, or entertain you.

When reading an article ask yourself a few questions.
