PLANE SENSE INVESTIGATION
2
KEY CONCEPTS A SYSTEM IS A SET OF RELATED OBJECTS THAT CAN BE STUDIED IN ISOLATION THIS COULD BE; THE PARTS OF AN AIRPLANE, THE FLIGHT LINE, AND THE LAUNCH TECHNIQUE
3
KEY CONCEPTS VARIABLES THAT AFFECT PLANE FLIGHT INCLUDE NUMBER OF RUBBER BANDS, LENGTH OF RUBBER BAND, AND MASS. A VARIABLE IS ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN CHANGE IN AN EXPERIMENT THAT MIGHT AFFECT THE OUTCOME. THE BASIC UNMODIFIED SYSTEM BEING INVESTIGATED IS CALLED THE STANDARD.
4
KEY CONCEPTS IN A CONTROLLED EXPERIMENT ALL THE VARIABLES ARE CONTROLLED EXCEPT ONE, ALLOWING THE EXPERIMENTER TO OBSERVE THE EFFECT OF THAT ONE VARIALBE ON THE OUTCOME. BY CHANGING JUST ONE VARIABLE IN THE SYSTEM, YOU CAN COMPARE THE 2/+ OUTCOMES AND SEE IF THE VARIABLE ACTUALLY CAUSED A CHANGE.
5
KEY CONCEPTS A TWO-COORDINATE GRAPH DISPLAYS THE EFFECT OF A VARIABLE ON A SYSTEM (did it have any outcome). INDEPENDENT VARIABLE ON X AXIS (what you already know) DEPENDENT VARIABLE ON Y AXIS (what you find out)
