May 2003 Multi-user Performance Comparison Two Critical Questions The most important questions for the multi-user mechanism are What is the multi-user capability in a multipath channel Critical because we are almost never in the clear! What is the multi-user capability for extreme near-far This is the case when the interfering user is very close Including closer than the desired user Welborn, XtremeSpectrum

May 2003 MUI Testing D int D ref Interferer TX Reference RX Reference TX Multi-user testing, as described in IEEE document 03/031r9, clause 5.3, is designed to indicate how many piconets can simultaneously co-existence. Of interest is how far away must be the interfering transmitter from the reference receiver and still achieve satisfactory system operation. The test is graphically shown below. We conducted testing at two data rate: 114 Mbps and 200 Mbps. The reference distance was fixed for all testing at 10 meters for 114 Mbps and 4 meters for 200 Mbps. The system configuration during these tests were: 114 Mbps: Low Band, 16-BOK, ½ rate convolutional FEC, RX NF=4.2 dB 200 Mbps: Low Band, 16-BOK, Reed Solomon[255,223] FEC, RX NF=4.2 dB Receiver equalization is used to remove reference path intersymbol interference Welborn, XtremeSpectrum
