Disconnected/remote deployment – Deploy Windows via CD set or DVD with or without network connectivity. WinPE, boot image, software updates, and applications can all be stored on removable media. Advanced Task Sequencing – New task sequence editor with many built-in primitives provides for flexible and powerful OS deployment. Network Access Protection integration for software updates– Prevent workstations from accessing corporate resources when they are not properly updated. Internet management scenarios – Software distribution, asset management, software updates management and desired configuration across the Internet without requiring a VPN. Software Updates improvements – Selectively downloading only the updates that apply to a given system. Greatly enhanced user interface. Custom (3rd-party) Updates – Open schema for software update detection and installation meta-data. Allows updating of 3rd-party and LOB applications. Vulnerability reporting Fully functional out of the box – Simple setup that ends with a fully functional SMS site. Simplification of SMS distribution hierarchy – Leveraging workstations as distribution points to reduce infrastructure and cost. Task-based UI – Simple and intuitive task-based administrator interface for software updates, Network Access Protection, OS deployment, software distribution and desired configuration management. Drag and drop! Install in a time window – Install software only in designated time windows. Proactive best practice evaluation/notification – Notification of any deviation from a desired configuration for a system or an application . Microsoft will ship knowledge based on existing Best Practice Analyzers.
