4 Integration In 1947 President Truman formed a special task force on civil rights. President Truman integrated the military and formed a special civil rights division within the Justice Department

5 Jackie Robinson Though the majority of Major League Baseball owners were against integration, the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Jackie Robinson to a contract in 1947 He became the 1st African American to play MLB, went on to win Rookie of the Year and eventually made into the Hall of Fame.

6 Brown v. Board of Education
In 1954 the Supreme Court began hearing arguments in Brown v. Board of Education The case dealt with school segregation and whether the separate but equal doctrine applied to public schools By an unanimous vote the court ruled that under the 14th Amendment school segregation was illegal, and order all states to desegregate their schools “with all deliberate speed”.

7 Brown v. Board of Education
Many states and local school districts refused to integrate Little Rock Central High School (1957) in Arkansas refused to allow 9 African American to integrate. President Eisenhower sent troops to put down the protest and let the “Little Rock Nine” into the school
