8 Penance Origin Middle English: from Old French, from Latin paenitentia ‘repentance’, from the verb paenitere ‘be sorry’. NOUN 1. Punishment inflicted on oneself as an outward expression of repentance for wrongdoing. 2. A sacrament in which a member of the Church confesses sins to a priest and is given absolution.

9 Metanoia Meta = Change (like metamorphosis in a caterpillar)
Nous = Mind (Nous is the origin of our English word knowledge)

Titus 1:15-16 Colossians 3:1-4 2 Corinthians 7:8-11

12 The Bottom Line… The cross of Christ is very personal for a very specific reason. It is to make us think differently. Repentance is the appropriate response to the cross of Christ. When our mind changes, our actions follow.
