1 Chapter 4: Corresponding Parts in Congruence
4-1: Congruent Figures

2 Congruent Figures Whenever two figures have the same size and shape, they are called congruent. The following statements are true: Since congruent triangles have the same shape, their corresponding angles are congruent. Since congruent triangles have the same size, their corresponding sides are congruent. All congruent figures will have corresponding parts that are congruent.

3 Given congruent triangles what are the corresponding parts?
FAN  SKY F A N S K Y Corresponding Vertices? Corresponding Angles? Corresponding Sides?

4 Congruent Triangles Two triangles are congruent if and only if their vertices can be matched up so that the corresponding parts (angles and sides) of the triangles are congruent. The wording used in proofs for this definition is: Corresponding parts of congruent triangles are congruent. CPCTC

5 If FAN  SKY, then their corresponding parts are congruent.
List their congruent parts:

6 Congruent Polygons Two polygons are congruent if and only if their vertices can be matched up so that their corresponding parts are congruent.
