(Francesca): Our presentation is going to focus on our link with both a local resident who is an important member of our local community and also happens to be a parent of a child at the school. We decided to do something new and relevant to our surroundings and focus on tractor safety as there is a lot of safety issues relevant to our surroundings. We

Safety around tractors
(Healy) As the local is a farmer is parent, we decided that we could politely ask him if he would mind coming into school to talk about tractor safetly. We were really pleased and excited that he agreed to do this and even bring his tractor into the school grounds! The planned visit and talk also was aimed at reception class seeing the tractor as they were learning about vehicles.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS... The maximum speed of a tractor is 35mph.
The PTO is a very hazardous piece on the back of the tractor [it can cause fatal injuries] Tractors now have a diesel engines Tractors have a high, mid and low horse power [PTO] A Tractor’s blind spot is mostly on the side, because if someone on a bicycle is biking on the side of the tractor, it could crush them!!!!!! (Olive) We combined researching tractor safety alongside asking the local farmer, Mr Abbott, and these are some interesting facts we found out which we later shared with the whole school in an assembly. Facts about tractors Tractors are used for farming. In the late 1800,s the first steam engine tractors were invented. Many Believed this was a crazy idea. (Francesca): We looked into the background information and found when tractors were invented.

Safety around tractors.
Never go near a tractor when its moving. Never touch the PTO at the back of the tractor. Power Take Off! (Healy): Our main safety message we have tried to ensure is that children know to never go near a tractor when it is moving and never to touch the PTO at the back of the tractor!
