2 Information on IEEE 802.15 IG LPWA to ETSI LTN
March 2017 Information on IEEE IG LPWA to ETSI LTN Joerg Robert (University Erlangen-Nuernberg), IG chair Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

3 March 2017 What is the IG LPWA Interest Group (IG) with focus on Low Power Wide Area Networks (LP-WAN) within IEEE IG does not develop standard, but analyzes whether a new standardization process may be useful Large interest within IEEE 802, approx. 25 persons attend IG meetings Meetings approx. every two month, additional telephone conferences between meetings Group will most likely finish with IG report after Berlin meeting in July All documents are available online: Generally large interest in cooperation with ETSI LTN Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

4 IG Objectives Definition of usage scenarios for LPWAN
March 2017 IG Objectives Definition of usage scenarios for LPWAN Review of regulatory aspects Definition of suitable channel models Definition of evaluation methods List of candidate technologies for LPWAN List of IEEE candidate standards for LPWAN Analysis of the performance of the technology option in the different usage scenarios Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

5 Timeline ( I / II ) September 2016 Interim (Warsaw)
March 2017 Timeline ( I / II ) September 2016 Interim (Warsaw) Discussion on IG objectives Call for contributions November 2016 Plenary (San Antonio) Fixed IG objectives Presentation of contributions (focus usage scenarios) Initial discussion on IG report January 2017 Interim (Atlanta) Fixed usage scenarios and channel models Presentation of contributions with focus on evaluation criteria Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

6 Timeline ( II / II ) March 2017 Plenary (Vancouver) May 2017 Daejeon
Fixed evaluation criteria Presentation of contributions with focus technology options for LPWA May 2017 Daejeon July 2017 Plenary (Berlin) Final discussion on IG report Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

7 Discussed Work Items Use-cases Channel Models Interference Models
March 2017 Discussed Work Items Use-cases Channel Models Interference Models Regulatory Aspects Evaluation Methodology List of candidate technologies List of candidate IEEE standards Liaison to ETSI LTN Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

8 Ongoing Work Evaluation of technologies Evaluation of IEEE standards
March 2017 Ongoing Work Evaluation of technologies Evaluation of IEEE standards Drafting of IG Report Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

9 March 2017 Liaison to ETSI LTN Official liaison has been agreed within workgroup IEEE Official request has been already submitted Main request is to get access to ETSI LTN documents Liaison beyond exchange of documents not useful for Interest Group Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

10 Continuation after IG LPWA
March 2017 Continuation after IG LPWA IG LPWA will continue as Study Group (SG) and Task Group (TG) to create an IEEE standard if IG Report indicates that existing IEEE standards are not suitable for LP-WAN IG Report indicates that technology candidates may allow for developing a standard that is able to fulfill the needs of LPWAN Sufficient support from other companies within IEEE Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg

11 Thank You! Any Questions? March 2017
Joerg Robert, FAU Erlangen-Nuernberg
