Spanish 1 Señora Verde Español Uno Mrs. Green 8th grade – Brink Junior High

2 Curriculum- what do we study?
This class is for high school credit. We cover the exact same material as is covered in Spanish 1 at the high schools. We go at the same pace, too! We make sure you are ready for Spanish 2 because… Two years of the same language (or computers) is a requirement for graduation in Oklahoma.

3 Methods- How do we learn?
Most vocabulary is introduced verbally with visual aids or demonstration Participation includes listening and speaking (sometimes for a grade!) Repetition is essential- practice will be verbal and written through worksheets, songs, games, workbooks, kids’ books, group work, lab, etc. Memorization takes effort

4 Personal Supplies- What do I need to succeed?
Your most valuable tools will be diligence, enthusiasm, curiosity, attentiveness, cooperation, organization, etc. Most days you will also need: -something to write with -something to take notes on -something to keep everything in

5 Class Supplies- What can I contribute to our class?
The following items by hour- 1st hour- 1 box of tissues 2nd hour- disinfecting wipes 6th hour- colored markers Colored paper, dry erase markers and candy for “rewards” are always welcome!

6 Assessment- how much did you learn?
There will be a variety of ways to “show me what you know”. To be ready there will be many ways to study and prepare but it will take WORK. Statistics- last year percentages by grade 1st semester- A-61%, B-28 %, C-11% 2nd semester- A- 47%, B-30 %, C-14% C- 9% Redo and extra credit opportunities exist, but are rare.

7 ¡Vamos a aprender mucho y es importante!
Studying a 2nd language improves your knowledge of your 1st language- vocabulary is increased and understanding of grammar is improved. In 2015, there were 41 million native Spanish speakers in the United States- up from 28 million in 2000 (and 17 in 1990). Employers need and will compensate well for language skills.
