1 RETIREMENT INFORMATION
A TIMELINE TO PLAN FOR RETIREMENT FOR UNITED AIRLINES EMPLOYEES ONLY REVISED: October 5, 2018 CREATED BY: JOHN STATON JR. AND JOHN TURNER

2 DO YOU QUALIFY FOR BRIDGE MEDICAL?
Any employee that had at least 20 years of service by November 1, 2013 is eligible for retiree bridge medical at age 60. You need 11 hours of unused sick time for every month that you need to bridge medical coverage to age 65. Example: if you retire at age 60, you would need 660 hours of sick time. ( 11hours x 60 months = 660 hours) Any employee that was at least 55 years old AND had at least 20 years of service by November 1, 2013 AND had insufficient sick hours to bridge medical, the company will credit the employee’s sick bank with 528 hours minus any sick time used between November 1, 2013 and the date the employee turns 61 for bridging medical.

3 BRIDGE MEDICAL FOR SPOUSE/DOMESTIC PARTNER
Article 3. 2c Spouse/domestic partner coverage will only be available if the employee has an enrolled spouse/domestic partner on the date of retirement (spouses/domestic partners cannot later be added). Coverage will be available for any other Dependents enrolled on the date of retirement or who are thereafter born or adopted and timely enrolled. Coverage for any spouse/domestic partner or other Dependent terminates upon the earliest of the expiration of 5 years of coverage (measured from the date the retiree’s retiree bridge medical coverage commenced), the spouse/domestic partner or Dependent reaches age 65, or the retiree dies (except that upon the retiree’s death, the spouse/domestic partner and/or other Dependents may elect to use any remaining sick leave in the manner described above, and then will be eligible for COBRA coverage). Examples on next page:

4 Examples for Spouse/Domestic Partner Bridge Medical
Employee is age 60 at retirement, spouse is age 58 and is currently enrolled in medical coverage. Employee has 660 hours of unused sick time. This would bridge the employee to age 65 and the spouse to age 63. If the employee wanted to bridge the spouse to age 65, the employee would need to retire when the spouse turns 60. Employee is age 68 at retirement, spouse is age 62. Employee would need 396 hours of unused sick time to bridge spouse’s medical to age Spouse needs 36 months of bridging medical coverage. ( 11 hours a month x 36 months = 396 hours of unused sick time needed)
