It is a constitutional republic governed as aparliamentary democracy with an elected president serving as head of state. Considered a developed country, Ireland has the seventh highest Human Development Index (HDI) in the world, in addition to great tratings on indices that measure the degree of democracy and freedoms as the press, economic and political. In the European Union (EU), Ireland is also a member of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and United Nations (UN).
