1 #16 Molecules and Compounds how elements’ atoms combine!

2 Make a t chart in your notebook like the one below:
Molecule Compound

3 Take notes on molecules and compounds during the video

4 Molecules A molecule consists of two or more atoms of the same element, or different elements, that are chemically bound together. Some elements can exist in molecule form. Have a chemical formula: Ex- O2, H2O, CO2, N2

5 Compounds A type of molecule
atoms of two or more different elements bound together can be broken down by chemical reactions different from the elements that make it up Have a chemical formula: H2O = Water CO2 = Carbon dioxide C2H4O2 = acetic acid (aka vinegar!) Nacl = SALT

6 Your apparatus should look like this:
SPLITTING H20! What do you need? A 9 volt battery Two regular number 2 pencils 1 note card Electrical wire (2) Beaker 100 mL Water ` Your apparatus should look like this:

7 Exit ticket: which gas is appearing on each pencil? Make an inference on how you might know this. Hint: the chemical formula for water is h20
