1 The Communication Cycle Y Cylch Cyfathrebu
Julie Richards

2 The communication cycle
Communication is not simply about giving information to people. While you are talking you go through a process or ‘cycle’ of thinking and interpreting what another person might mean. Nid yn unig yw cyfathrebu ynglŷn â rhoi gwybodaeth i bobl. Tra byddwch yn siarad byddwch yn mynd drwy broses neu 'cylch' o feddwl a dehongli beth y gallai person arall yn ei olygu

3 The communication process will usually involve a series of steps:-
Expressing our thoughts / Mynegi ein meddyliau Watching the other person’s non-verbal response and body language. / Gwylio ymateb di-eiriau ac iaith y corff y person arall Interpreting the other person’s body language and trying to work out what they are thinking./ Dehongli'r iaith y corff y person arall ac yn ceisio gweithio allan yr hyn y maent yn ei feddwl. Listening to their response to what we have said./ Gwrando ar eu hymateb i hyn y mae’nt wedi'i ddweud

4 5. Trying to make sense of their response
5. Trying to make sense of their response./ Ceisio gwneud synnwyr o'u hymateb 6. Expressing new ideas./ Mynegi syniadau newydd.

5 The communication cycle

6 Communication needs to be a two-way process where each person is trying to understand the viewpoint of the other person. Mae cyfathrebu angen fod yn broses ddwy ffordd lle mae pob person yn ceisio deall safbwynt y person arall The communication cycle requires professionals to have advanced listening skills and the ability to check their understanding of others responses. Mae'r cylch cyfathrebu'n wneud yn ofynnol i weithwyr proffesiynol i gael sgiliau gwrando datblygedig a'r gallu i wirio eu dealltwriaeth o ymatebion pobl eraill (listening is not the same as hearing the sounds people make it is also about interpreting those sounds/words).

7 Things that can go wrong!
Spoken Heard Implemented Understood Acted on Thought – things never get out of your head!, so no-one is communicated to and no-one is influenced. Thought

8 Spoken – Not making the meaning clear; not picking the right time or place; assuming the other person is ready and willing to listen; assuming that other people know what you’re talking about. Ddim yn gwneud yr ystyr yn glir, nid dewis yr amser cywir neu le; gan dybio bod y person arall yn barod ac yn barod i wrando; gan dybio bod pobl eraill yn gwybod beth rydych chi'n sôn amdano. Heard – Not waiting to see if the other person has heard and assuming that they have; not reading the ‘clues’ given by other people. Dim yn aros i weld a yw'r person arall wedi clywed ac yn tybio eu bod wedi, dim yn ddarllen y 'cliwiau' a roddir gan bobl eraill. Understood – Assuming what you’ve said has been understood and not waiting to see if that’s so; using terms and language that the other person is not familiar with.

9 Acted on – You assume that the agreement is going to be acted on and then not checking to see if that’s true. Rydych yn tybio bod y cytundeb yn cael ei gweithredu ar, ac yna ddim yn gwirio i weld os yw hynny'n wir. Implemented – Having got this far on the cycle it is still possible to ‘fall off’ by assuming that once you’ve agreed and acted on something once, it will keep on happening. Wedi dod cyn belled a hyn yn y cylch mae'n dal yn bosibl i 'syrthio i fwrdd' gan dybio bod unwaith y byddwch wedi cytuno ac wedi gweithredu ar rywbeth unwaith, bydd yn parhau i ddigwydd
