2 What is it? A free one-stop website helping year olds in the South of England plan their future study & work 350,000+ users in 97% of users found the site useful 100s of positive quotes “At first I was unsure on what I wanted to do after school but Careerpilot has enlightened me and helped reassure me.” “It has made me re think my options and once where I thought university was a no go, I am now looking at this.” Explain that Careerpilot is a free website used across the South of England. Helping students to find out about all of their options. Important for finding out more about jobs and courses & support when making key decisions like choosing post 16 options

Statistically you will have 10 different jobs by the time you turn 42! Hugh Jackman Kanye West Quick starter activity to show that you are likely do a range of different jobs in your lifetime so that work experience is vital for finding out the right job for you. Increase your knowledge of working life Helps you choose the type of career you might like It can build your self-confidence You will learn more skills Potentially earn some money (e.g. part time work) Ask students why they think WEX is important – show them the possible answers – there may be others that haven’t been displayed on the slide Make useful contacts for the future

6 Sign in/Register to save your choices
But wait, there’s more… Sign in/Register to save your choices Explain that the website can be used to save their choices – they can bookmark pages to come back to later. They can record the jobs that they are interested in etc in Career Tools and record their work experience

7 19 job sectors, 57 sub sectors, 100s of job profiles
Show how to use job sectors – students can look at jobs in different sectors or look at jobs that are linked to school subjects or take the job sector quiz if they are unsure what they want to do.

8 Shows the animal job sector and the 3 different sub sector within this sector – animal, agriculture and environmental jobs

9 This shows the animal sector and the different jobs within that sector where students can find out more detail about individual jobs

10 This shows what they can find out about the job and how if students complete the pre 16 skills map they can compare their skills with those required by the job. Also – shows them if certain qualifications or subjects are required to do that job

11 Pre 16 Skills Map – can record WEX
When they have complete their WEX placement or if they have a part time / voluntary job they can record this within pre 16 skills map

A reminder that each of their choices and results are saved within their Career Tools (as long as they register on the site)

13 If you have registered before, sign in
The first thing you should do is register, then you can save all your choices as you use the site and see them in a report.

Did anyone score 100% on one of the skills? Ask the students if anyone completed the skills map? Did anyone score 100%? Have a discussion about what they found out when they looked at the skills required for different jobs and their own skills.

A slide to show the report that is created once the career tools have been completed – moves up with them each year in school Report moves up each year
