1 Puritan Illustration Assignment
Based on the background information you’ve read, as well as the essay “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” by Jonathan Edwards (p.87 in textbook), you should have a fairly good picture of what Puritan society was like. Your assignment is to: 1. Come up with three characteristics (adjectives) that you believe define Puritanism 2. Find an especially vivid passage from Edwards that you believe illustrates those characteristics (write it out) 3. Literally illustrate your passage from “Sinners” (draw a picture) 4. Defend in writing how your passage fits the key characteristics you've chosen - one complete paragraph. Place your illustration (step 3) on one side of a 8 ½ x 11 piece of printer paper. On the reverse side, write out steps 1, 2 and 4.

2 Front Back 1. Adjective 1 (happy) Adjective 2 (easy-going) Adjective 3 (forgiving) Passage: “That world of misery, that lake of burning brimstone, is extended abroad under you.
