1 Getting Ready for ERBs What should I expect?

2 Why do we do ERB testing? Measure progress of students
Measure progress of our school

3 What should I do before the test?
Can we study for ERBs? No, we can’t really study for the ERBs, we’ve been learning the information all along! BUT we can make sure we’re prepared! What should I do to be prepared? Get a good night’s sleep the night before. Eat a healthy breakfast that will keep you energized! Try not to worry. We always want students to do their best, but there is no need to stress! Learn as much as you can about the types of questions and format of the test so you are not surprised when you see it. Practice good test taking skills.

4 What are good test taking skills?
Read all directions and information for each part of the test. Read the question and possible answers carefully. Take your time! The test has a timer to help you gauge how you’re doing, so there is no need to rush through the test! Use scratch paper to work out problems or make notes. When in doubt, try to eliminate answers that don’t make sense and narrow it down to a few choices, then take your best guess.

5 What tests will we take? Reading Comprehension Vocabulary
Verbal Reasoning Writing Concepts and Skills Writing Mechanics Quantitative Reasoning Math 1 & 2 (part with and part without a calculator)

6 Quantitative Reasoning and Math 1 & 2

7 Tips for Quantitative Reasoning and Math 1 & 2
Take your time! Use your scratch paper! Double check your answer and ask yourself, “Does my answer make sense?” Try some sample problems! Rule out any “silly answers” that are not possible. Remember, sometimes you might be able to determine an answer just by comparing the numbers or information without calculating anything.

8 Quantitative Reasoning Sample Questions
For every question, you will see two columns of information. You will be asked to compare the information in Column A to the information in Column B and select one of the following

26 Tips for Reading Comprehension
Take your time and read the entire text! Remember, you might have to scroll down on the screen to see the whole story. Try some sample problems! Rule out any incorrect answers. Look back in the text to find answers when you are not sure!

27 Reading Comprehension Sample Questions
First you will read a text. Remember to scroll down, if needed. Then you will answer a few questions about each passage. Only one question will appear on the screen at a time The passage will remain on each screen as you move through the questions

29 Note: On the real ERB, you may only see one question at a time!

32 Tips for Vocabulary Read the directions!
Read the entire question or sentence. Then reread once you know what you’re looking for! Watch out for key words like: “Same Meaning” “Opposite” “Most Like” “Most Nearly” Try some sample problems! Rule out any incorrect answers. To check your work replace the underlined word with your answer. Does the sentence still make sense?

33 Vocabulary Sample Questions
Choose the best answer, then check your answer by replacing the underline word in the sentence with your answer. Does the sentence still make sense?

39 Tips for Analogies Think of an analogy as a relationship between two words. It might help to create a sentence with the words: Try some sample problems! Rule out any incorrect answers. Use the relationship between the given words to check your answer. Hmm…A towel is used to dry. So a ______ is used to _______. I think A is the best answer! A broom is used to clean.
