M5.2 Looking at relationship with the WiFi Alliance
November 2014 M5.2 Looking at relationship with the WiFi Alliance IEEE and the WiFi Alliance are mutually dependent. The relationship between the two organizations is generally effective, helped by a large number of participants common to both. The WG chair addressed the WFA board at their recent meeting on the topic of improving this relationship. We plan for the WG executive committee to meet with a number of the WFA executive/board members to consider how to improve the relationship. Expect a report in March 2015. May 2011 doc.: IEEE /0051r2 November 2014 W5.4 ANA – Request for guidance on rules for allocation of last Element IDs has 19 unused and 6 reserved (was allocated) values. TGai has asked for >50% of these numbers to be allocated to it. In Sept, TGmc was tasked with creating an extension mechanism. Wed pm2 has a scheduled agenda item to discuss this Should we create criteria for use of the remaining ElementIDs, or allocate on a first-come, first-served basis? Should we re-cycle old Element IDs? Captured Discussion Points
November 2014 Captured Discussion Points Extension per group? Preserve existing for beacon? Revoke existing allocations? Delay ANA allocations? Wait until TGmc mechanism decided? Limit allocation of base to 1 per amendment? Get TGai to fix it Make a decision this week? Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

W5.6 – Discuss 802.11 response to 802c PAR
November 2014 W5.6 – Discuss response to 802c PAR 802c would like a protocol to allocate MAC addresses from the locally administered address space One solution being considered to improve privacy is to use a randomized MAC address from the locally administered address space. There is apparently a conflict for this resource. This was discussed on Monday, and the outcome was: TBD Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
18
November 2014 So what happens next? The WG chair, as an EC member, will vote on the 802c PAR during the Friday closing 802 EC. NOTE, the WG chair votes as an individual in the EC using his or her best understanding of the issues, except when a “directed position” has been established in the WG (75%). F6.1 Use of remaining Element IDs
November 2014 F6.1 Use of remaining Element IDs Document 11-14/1353r3 was approved by TGmc on Thursday. This provides an Element ID Extension mechanism and reserves 3 of the existing Element IDs for this purpose. After Wednesday’s session, and based on hallway discussion, two alternative proposals are brought for discussion, modification and selection: “First come first served” “Controlled” Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
26
“First Come First Served”
November 2014 “First Come First Served” Requests will be honoured by the ANA in the order received Previously allocated Element IDs will not be recycled These are marked as “reserved (was allocated)” in the ANA database Once all Element IDs are allocated, any further allocations will come from the Element ID Extension namespace Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
27
November 2014 “Controlled” By default, all requests for Element IDs will be allocated from the Element ID Extension space Legacy Element IDs are to be used only for elements to go in Beacon and Probe Request/Response frames WG approval by motion is required for any request for a legacy Element ID Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
28
Do you prefer: Straw Poll “First come first served” “Controlled”
November 2014 Straw Poll Do you prefer: “First come first served” “Controlled” Something else Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

What formal action is required?
November 2014 What formal action is required? The operation of the ANA is described in the operating manual (11-14/629r4) section 9. We probably need to document any decision made here in the OM for reference, and definitely need to do it if we create a requirement for a formal motion. Text for an OM change can be considered at the next session, but should not delay the fulfilment of any pending requests using the new mechanism. Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
