3 Chronic vs Aggressive Periodontitis
Mostly in adults Severity of destruction= irritant Sub-gingival calculus present with signs of inflammation Progression rate: slow-moderate No marked familial aggregation Localized (< 30% sites) or Generalized (30%/ more sites) Severity graded: slight (mild), moderate / severe Circum-pubertal / under 30 yr Severity of destruction ≠ irritant Sub-gingival calculus minimal/ absent with little or no signs of inflammation Rapid rate of progression Marked familial aggregation Localized (1st molars and incisors) or Generalized (at least 3 permanent teeth other than 1st molar and incisors

4 CASE 1 Data: A 56 year- old male. Smokes 15 cig/ day and is an uncontrolled diabetic. Upon examination the periodontal findings are as shown on the chart. Diagnose this case using the AAP classification. Justify your diagnosis and clearly indicate the teeth involved in each category

5 CASE 2 Data: A 24 yr old female. Complains of bad breath, does not smoke and is systemically healthy. Clinical findings appear on the chart. Answer questions 1 and 2 as they appear on CASE 1 above, for this case.

6 CASE 3 Data: A 32 year old female. No history of smoking nor systemic diseases. She complains of bleeding gums and bad breath. She informs you that she is worried about her teeth because in her family nobody has kept their natural teeth beyond the age of 40. Answer question 1 and 2 as in case 1 above.
