3 The Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13)

4 vs. 1-4 The Beast out of the Sea
The Sea- represents nations & their governments Isaiah 17:12 Woe to the many nations that rage—they rage like the raging sea! Woe to the peoples who roar—they roar like the roaring of great waters! Revelation 17:15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.

5 vs. 1-4 The Beast out of the Sea Seven heads and ten horns
Daniel saw four beasts arising out of the sea in his vision in Daniel 7 Daniel's beasts are not individuals, but four successive earthly kingdoms/ world empires These four beasts now take the form of one composite beast with 7 heads and 10 horns These numbers are representative & literal

6 Revelation 17:7-13 7 … I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns. 9 … The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. <kingdoms > Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 12 “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.

7 vs. 1-4 The Beast out of the Sea
The beast coming out of the sea symbolizes the persecuting power of Satan embodied in all the nations and governments of the world throughout all history

8 vs. 5-10 42 Months A Picture- the Gospel Age/ Church Age Rev 11 Measuring the temple & the two witnesses Rev 12 The woman taken care of in the wilderness Rev 13 The persecution through nations and governments to “exercise authority” and “to make war against the saints”

9 The Beast out of the Earth
vs The Beast out of the Earth The Earth- represents antichristian philosophy James 3:15 (NLT) For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. Philippians 3:19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.

10 The Beast out of the Earth
vs The Beast out of the Earth The second beast is the false prophet (Rev 19:20) It symbolizes false religion and false philosophy in whichever form these appear throughout the entire church age Although this beast outwardly resembles the Lamb it inwardly conceals Satan It is very appealing and attractive Looks very innocent (a little lamb)

11 vs The Mark of the Beast The beasts demand full allegiance from the nations which is symbolized by taking the mark Mark is placed on the forehead or right hand (as in “the Shema” taken from Deut. 6:8) The forehead symbolizes one’s mind, thought-life, and philosophy The right hand symbolizes one’s deed, action, trade, and industry

12 vs The Mark of the Beast The number of man is 6, created on the sixth day. Six, never reaches seven. It always fails to attain to perfection The number of the beast is 666- for the beast glories in man. Six is tripled-counterfeits the Trinity This mark represents allegiance to human achievement and the beast

13 The mark of the beast expresses spiritual ownership
vs The Mark of the Beast Can't buy or sell- the idea is that if you want to survive in society you must think and act in accordance with the world Christians have often been heavily discriminated against in their work The mark of the beast expresses spiritual ownership
