1 Workshop on Distributed Embedded Systems, Lorentz Center, 21–24 Nov.05
Practical sessions on 23 and 24 November 2005 December 30, 2018

2 Objectives Get an overview of the existing performance analysis (PA) methods; Classify methods based on criteria such as scope, accuracy, modeling effort, etc.; Understand limitations of the methods and define future research directions; Form a pool of performance analysis problems for testing of different PA methods.

3 Agenda: Wednesday 23. Nov. Session 1: Presentation of Methods I Break
Session 2: Presentation of Methods II Lunch Session 3: Identification of Test Problems for Performance Analysis Session 4: Work in Groups I

4 Agenda: Thursday 24. Nov. Session 1: Presentation of Groupwork I
Morning: Work in Groups II Lunch Session 3: Presentation of Groupwork II Break Session 4: Discussion and Comparison of PA Methods; Further Steps

5 Agenda: Wednesday 23. Nov. Session 1: Presentation of Methods I Break
Session 2: Presentation of Methods II Lunch Session 3: Identification of Test Problems for Performance Analysis Session 4: Work in Groups I

6 PA method presentation
A 10-min talk with 5-min questions. Suggested contents: A brief introduction giving an overview of the method; A case study demonstrating modeling power and scalability of the method; A summary of limitations and strengths of the method; the class of systems that the method can analyze.

7 Agenda: Wednesday 23. Nov. Session 1: Presentation of Methods I Break
Session 2: Presentation of Methods II Lunch Session 3: Identification of Test Problems for Performance Analysis Session 4: Work in Groups I

8 Test problems Build a pool of test problems. Problem types:
Small problems Expose one analysis problem or modeling difficulty. Challenging (even for your own method), or Simple to serve for comparison of different PA methods Really small, e.g. involving only few tasks/nodes. Large problems Reveal scalability. Realistic application scenarios.

9 ToDo List: If you want to present a method:
Write an to Prepare a Presentation. If you want to propose problems: Send them to us. (PDF/PPT) (before Wednesday 10AM)
