Checks and Balances/ Separation of Powers: All three branches work together and divide the power of the government between the three branches to make sure that not one branch can gain all the power.

The legislative branch is in charge of making the laws that our country follows.
Congress is the head of the Legislative Branch, which is made up of two parts:

4. The House of Representatives
The House of Representatives are made up of law makers chosen/voted on by the people of each state to represent their state in Congress.
Each state has a certain number of representatives depending on their population.
There are currently 435 Representatives in Congress.

5. The House of Representatives (Continued)
The Speaker of the House is the leader of the House of Representatives
Other duties of the House of Representatives:
They can create tax bills
They decide whether a government person should be
impeached.
Representatives are elected every two years.
Qualifications to be a Representative:
Must be 25 years or older
Be a U.S. Citizen at least 7 years
Must live in the state that they represent

6. The Senate
Each of the 50 states has 2 senators, which makes a total of 100 senators total in Congress.
The people in each state vote and elect the two senators to represent them in congress.
The Vice President is the leader of the Senate.
Senators are elected every six years.

Other Senate Duties:
They can amend tax bills
They hold the trial for a government person being impeached.
Qualifications to be Senator:
At least 30 years or older
A U.S. Citizen for at least 9 years
Must live in the state that they represent
