Second-degree murder Voluntary manslaughter Involuntary manslaughter Negligent homicide In a lot of cases, second degree can be dropped to voluntary manslaughter. Ex – bar fight. Provocation. Someone killing his wife bc he walks in on her cheating will still get second-degree

5 Scenario Susie walks in on Jared cheating on her with their neighbor, Melissa. Susie freaks out and throws things against the wall, but does not hurt either Jared or Melissa. A week later, Susie is still sad about Jared’s cheating. Susie suffocates Jared with a pillow that night. What will she be tried for?

7 Arson Arson is the malicious burning of another person’s property
Note: Burning your own property to collect insurance money is not arson; it is fraud.

8 Vandalism Vandalism is the willful destruction of, or damage to, the property of another. This can be a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on the dollar amount of the damage.

9 Larceny (Theft) Larceny is taking someone else’s property with the intent to steal it. Petty larceny is the theft of something worth less than $100. Grand larceny is theft above $100. This includes shoplifting and concealment (attempted shoplifting).

10 Embezzlement Embezzlement is the taking of property by someone entrusted with it.

11 Robbery and Extortion Robbery is taking property from a person’s immediate possession by force or intimidation. Extortion is using threats to obtain the property of another.

12 Burglary and Forgery Burglary is unauthorized entry with the intent to commit a crime. Forgery is falsely altering a document with the intent to defraud.

13 Receiving Stolen Property
Receiving stolen property is buying property with reason to believe it is stolen (knowledge may be implied).

14 Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
Unauthorized use of a vehicle is taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Carjacking is using force or intimidation to steal a car from the driver.

15 Computer Crime A computer crime is any violation of a criminal law that involves the use of a computer technology to commit the crime. This includes hacking (gaining unauthorized access to a computer system).
