1 Creative Task: New Production Proposal
L.O. – How can we develop a proposal for a new production?

2 How can the skills we learnt for Unit 2 help us to develop a proposal for a new media production?
In the same groups as yesterday, you will get 30 minutes to create a proposal for a new television programme. You will need need to base your ideas on the findings from last lesson. You will then present your ideas to the group. Your proposal should include: a working title genre and purpose target audience an indication of style a synopsis scheduling how would the product target a gap in the market? What would be its unique selling point (USP)?

3 Potential source of revenue
L.O. – How can we research the budgeting and finance of a media product?

4 Your proposal You now need to imagine that your media product has interest from the media executives. The BBC have said that they are not interested, as they cannot justify spending license payers’ money on your idea, but ITV, Channel 4 and Sky would like to know more. You have been asked to research potential sources of revenue that could help finance the production of the media product with a view to making profit.

5 Media products are expensive to make
In your groups, carry out some detailed research: Find out how much it costs to make similar media texts Create a mind map that identifies the potential advertising, sponsorship and funding opportunities using the resources below Justify your decisions and sources based on your programme and audience and present them to the executives.

6 Researching existing media texts
L.O. – How are media productions informed by research?

7 Research existing media texts
Using your proposal for a production you need to pick three productions within the same genre/style and analyse production techniques including: locations characters/presenters narrative structure/programme structure camerawork and editing techniques use of sound.

8 Write a short report detailing what you would need to put in a final treatment for your production.
Title: A dynamic one. It seems obvious but a good title is often a sign of a solid central idea. Logline: A powerful one or two-sentence statement of the idea being proposed (circa 25 words). Synopsis: A paragraph outlining the idea in more detail Episodes: How long would each episode last? How many episodes in a series? Characters: Short descriptive outlines for each of the main characters (include name, age, occupation and a short summary of what makes them tick) – one to two sentences each
