1 Your Power Pitch Presentation
.SL a Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic or issue…

2 The format You will use Google Slides to present your findings to the rest of the class. There is no set minimum/maximum amount of slides. Make sure that you share your presentation with me. Your goal: Convince your audience that the problem you have selected is, in fact, a problem.

3 Logos Make your claim (thesis) absolutely clear.
Note: It helps if you have it at the top of all of your slides. Connect your evidence to your directions (main points) Make sure you have some big-picture statistics. MOST of your evidence should be factual. Feel free to include relevant charts/graphs, but be able to interpret them for your audience.

4 Pathos Use anecdotes and small stories to illustrate points.
Tip: These work well at the beginning and ending of a presentation Include relevant pictures and short video/audio clips to support your claim. Your tone of voice can also elicit pathos. Sound sympathetic and passionate, and your audience will feel that.

5 Ethos Establish your credibility Come prepared!
Don’t just read from the slides. Make your slides neat – not too much information. Be confident and clear in your speaking. Document all sources in your presentation.

6 How do I document sources in a Power Pitch?!
Use the first piece of information you list in your Works Cited entry for the source. Tip: This will be author’s last name or title of a work if no author is available. Examples: 50 percent of high school students fail at least one class before graduating (Smith). 75 percent of all Dunbar graduates enroll in college (PLD Staff Handbook)

7 Works Cited Your power pitch should have a Works Cited as its final slide. Include all sources that you reference in the presentation (three minimum!) Use the planning sheet you have already created. Alphabetize those sources.

8 Example Works Cited "Blueprint Lays Out Clear Path for Climate Action." Environmental Defense Fund. 8 May Web. 24 May 2009. Dean, Cornelia. "Executive on a Mission: Saving the Planet." New York Times May Web. 25 May 2009. GlobalWarming.org. Cooler Heads Coalition, Web. 24 May 2009.
