3. Psalms 23
1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

4. We are like Sheep “He Restoreth My Soul”
“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Ps. 100:3
We are like Sheep
“But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.” Ps. 78:52

5. Four requirements for sheep to rest:
No fear
No friction
No pests
No hunger / thirst
…the same is true of people
Matthew 6:25-34
Don’t worry about food or water
Don’t worry about clothing
God knows you need these
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” v. 33

6. Sheep must have water Need clean pure water
Polluted dirty water will make them sick
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matt. 5:6
“If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.” John 7:37b
2 Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”

7. Sheep often lose their way
Wander around and get lost - can’t find their way
The shepherd must go and find them
“All we like sheep have gone astray…” Isaiah 53:6
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” 1 Cor. 10:12

8. Cast Sheep

9. Like Sheep we can be Cast down
Sheep can be Cast
“cast down” = turned over on it’s back
= cannot get up again by itself
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Psalms 42:11
Ps. 42:6 “O my God, my soul is cast down within me”

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8

13. Reasons why sheep are “cast”
Soft, comfortable, rounded place to bed down
Relax
Roll over on back = cast
Too much wool
Heavy, matted with mud and debris
Thrown off balance = cast
Must be sheared
Too Fat
Hard for them to move around
They need exercise and balanced diet

14. Reasons why Christians are “cast”
Soft, comfortable, rounded place to bed down
Look for easy way
1 Cor. 10:12 “take heed lest he fall”
Too much wool
Weighed down with debris of this life
Heb. 12:1 “let us lay aside every weight”
Eph. 4:22 “Put off” - the “old man”
Too Fat
Need to be actively using the Word
1 Tim.4:7 “exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
Repentance

15. “He Restoreth My Soul” Shepherd finds a cast sheep
Turns it over and helps it get onto its feet
Regains it’s balance - rejoins the flock
Our Shepherd restores our soul
Concern for us - feeling of compassion
Jesus will pick up “cast” sheep
Tenderness, love and patience
Peter is an example
“Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.” Psalms 107:43

16. Do not know how to care for themselves
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way” Isaiah 53:6
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Pr.14:12

17. Jesus is the Good Shepherd
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” John 10:10
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Matt. 16:24

18. “He Restoreth My Soul”
If we follow him and fall down he will restore our soul !

19. How my soul is restored Cleansed 1 Jn. 1:9 Forgiven Pray – Acts 8:22
Confess sins – 1 Jn.1:9
Repent of sins – Acts 8:22

To be Saved
In Christ = SAVED
Baptized (Gal.3:27)
Confess (Rom.10:10)
Repent (Lk.13:3)
Believe (Jn.8:24)
Hear (Rom.10:17)

21. “He Restoreth My Soul”
If we follow him and fall down he will restore our soul !
