1 Employee Engagement Survey 2018
General Briefing

2 Survey format We have the same provider (ORC) for the survey as for 2016 which will enable comparisons to 2016 There are several new questions this time as follows: I have the autonomy to work in a way that suits me There are sufficient spaces for staff to meet and collaborate I believe the new professional services structures will enable us to function more effectively I am aware of the wellbeing opportunities (flexible working, interest clubs, networks, sports facilities, care first etc.) available to me. I believe the University supports my health and wellbeing I feel able to talk openly to my manager about my health and wellbeing I know how to raise concerns I feel able to be myself at work In the last year, at work at the university, I have experienced: bullying/harassment discrimination / victimisation sexual misconduct unfair treatment (2016, Q24)

3 Wellbeing and Engagement

4 Key messages (1) The Employee Engagement Survey is a great way to have your say 5th – 26th November. 73% of colleagues completed a survey in 2016 – we would like to hear from even more this time. University will donate £1 to your choice of three charities (shortlisted via vote). There will be a prize for the first team to reach 100% completion of the survey. Response rates by College or Service will be published weekly online and in Weekly Bulletin while the survey is open.  Confidentiality is assured - you will not be asked to enter your name at any point. Reporting and analysis will only take place for groups of 10 staff and above. Follow up action planning will take place at a local and University level

5 Key messages (2) Survey results will be available in January 2019, following ORC presentation to VCEG – results will come via to PS directors, College PVCs and Directors of College Operations. University level results will also be available to view on the University website: There will be the opportunity to get involved in action planning at a local level to respond to the results for your service area. There will also be University-wide plans which the Positive Working Environment Board will drive forward The following slides set out the staff groupings being used for the survey which provide guidance to help you select the relevant staff group.

6 Next steps and timings 24 September - 11 October 2018 ORC survey build and user testing. October UoE user testing of the survey tool and feedback. 5 – 26 November Survey live. December Analysis of results. January Presentation of results to VCEG. January Results cascade. February – March Action planning.

7 Employee Engagement Survey 2018
Staff groupings Points to highlight for staff groupings: PVCs, DCOs and PS Directors to select “VCEG / PSLT” drop down within VC Office and Executive Management. As for 2016 survey, there is an SMG group for each PS area - recommend Director direct reports select thus rather than their service area. No college executive group option, again replicating format for 2016 survey Confidentiality assured: no reports or analysis for groups of less than ten.
