1 Instructor: Eng. Jalal Al Roumy
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم The Islamic University of Gaza Faculty of Engineering Electrical Engineering Department POWER ELECTRONICS EELE 5450 — Summer 2012 Instructor: Eng. Jalal Al Roumy Lecture 10

2 Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit
Chapter Four Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit The output dc voltage ED will be function of firing angle: Assume that the inductance is sufficiently large, so that each Scr conducts for a period of 180 degree.( conduction current is continuous). Both thyristors are triggered with the same delay angle, hence they share the load current equally. The load current is shown to be constant dc (due to large value of inductance)

3 Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit
Chapter Four Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit The output dc voltage ED will be function of firing angle: The output dc voltage ED is: Maximum when α= Zero when α= Negative maximum when α= α <180o  ???? The output dc voltage ED is: Maximum when α=0o Zero when α=90o Negative maximum when α=180o 90<α <180o  ????

4 Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit
Chapter Four Single-Phase Full-Wave Inductive Load circuit

5 Chapter Four End of Lecture The load voltage cannot be negative
A single-Phase Full-Wave Phase-Controlled Converter with Free-Wheeling Diode A constant load current is maintained by free-wheeling current through the diode: End of Lecture
