Luke 11:1-4
Hallowed be Thy Name
Introduction

2. Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray, say:

3. “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come
“Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.” (Luke 11:1-4 ESV)

This petition necessarily comes first, for the glorifying of God’s great name is the ultimate end of all things. All other requests must be subordinate to this one and be in pursuance of it. We cannot pray aright unless the glory of God be dominant in our desires.

Second, what is signified by God’s name?
Third, what is the sense of "hallowed be Thy name?"
Fourth, why does this petition come first?

9. First, what is meant by the word hallowed?
Heidelberg That is: Grant us first of all that we may rightly know you, and sanctify, glorify, and praise you in all your works, in which shine forth your almighty power, wisdom, goodness, righteousness, mercy, and truth.

10. Grant us also that we may so direct our whole life-- our thoughts, words, and actions-- that your Name is not blasphemed because of us but always honored and praised.

Third, what did Jesus intend for us to consider in our hearts when He taught us to pray, "Hallowed be Thy name"?

For us to hallow, or sanctify His name, means that we give God the supreme place, that we set Him above all else in our thoughts, affections, and lives

13. There is a direct correlation between your prayer and praise life and how you relate to others.

14. Praise enables us to see ourselves and our circumstances from the vantage point of the throne of grace.
When the beauty of God’s grace in Christ is big, then all other things are seen from a new perspective.

16. Fourth, it is now obvious why this is the first petition in the Lord’s Prayer, for it provides the only legitimate basis for all our other requests.

17. The ABC’s of coming to faith –
A - Admit that you’re weak and need grace and strength – That means there is GOOD NEWS FOR YOU  
B- Believe that Jesus is the only savior who can heal your heart.
C- confess to God that you want to trust Jesus as your savior and Lord.

18. Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth,  As it is in heaven.

19. Give us this day our daily bread
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation,  But deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom,  The power, and the glory,  For ever and ever.  Amen.
