4. How Does it Work?
City of FW chose to establish Sister Cities program independently rather than as a City department (1985)
Management provided by Fort Worth Sister Cities International, Inc.
Annual contract to carry out City’s programs with each international partner

FY10 City contribution $50,000
How we are managing reduction
Reduce operating budget by $199,460
- 3 of 8 positions eliminated
- 8 furlough days for remaining staff
- Staff training eliminated and various general expenses
Increase revenue
- Maintain 2009 fundraising levels + $50,000
Utilize no more than $150,000 of reserve

2,924 inbound & outbound delegates, through DFW Airport, last 5 years
Nearly 3,000 seats filled on airlines serving DFW Airport
Over1,600 airline tickets purchased on American Airlines

10. What’s the Value to FW? Marketing Impact:
National and international publicity
Marketing efforts enhance Fort Worth’s image, attract visitors and business
Recognition to FW through national and international awards
Show french magazine talking about Reggio Emilia’s horse show and Fort Worth’s rodeo. They get the connection worldwide.

Majority of all programs are targeted toward youth: 15,342 in last 5 years
Only 2 outbound adult exchanges per year (47 adults participated in exchanges last year)
Participants pay their own expenses
Outbound exchanges help fund local programs reaching 53,714+ youth & adults, last 5 years
$473,044 in scholarships awarded to low-income students, last 5 years
