1 Ciliated Epithilial Cell

2 Muscle Cell

3 Nerve Cell

4 Palisade Cell

5 Root Hair Cell

6 Xylem Cell

7 This type of cell has many hairs or ‘cilia’ which wave about to move things. These are found in the lungs where they move dirt to prevent infection or blockages. This photograph shows this type of cell magnified x1500. You can see the tiny cilia at the top of the cell.

8 This type of cell can change its length, contracting to become shorter
This type of cell can change its length, contracting to become shorter. Muscle cells are much longer than they are wide. When grouped in a tissue they allow us to move. This photograph shows this type of cell magnified x4

9 This type of cell is also known as a neuron
This type of cell is also known as a neuron. They can be very long so that signals can be sent around the body very quickly (400km/h) This photograph shows this type of cell in the tissue of the brain magnified x3000.

10 This type of cell is found in plants
This type of cell is found in plants. They are packed with green chloroplasts to help the plant make it’s food in photosynthesis. They are found near the top layer of the leaves so they are exposed to as much light as possible. This photograph shows this type of cell magnified x200 You can see the chloroplasts clearly in the cells.

11 This type of cell is designed to take water out of the ground quickly
This type of cell is designed to take water out of the ground quickly. The root hair gives the root a greater surface area and so it is more efficient at it’s job. This photograph shows this type of cell magnified x100. In some of the cells you can see the nucleus.

12 These cells join together to form strong, hollow tubes
These cells join together to form strong, hollow tubes. These tubes transport water to the leaves of the plant. This photograph shows these types of cell magnified x600 You can see the tubular shape and where the cells join.
