1 Parts of the microscope

2 Microscopes What do we use microscopes for?
To enlarge small samples which cannot easily be seen with the naked eye so that their characteristics can become visible In other words: we use microscopes to make really small stuff big enough for us to see BONUS: What is this? Baby Jellyfish (ephyra)

3

4 How a microscope works Two or more lenses are placed directly above the specimen (what you’re looking at) Light enters below the specimen (thanks to a lightbulb or mirrors) and travels through the lens Allows you to see your specimen (produces an image) The combination of different lenses allows for different magnifications

5 Determining Magnification
Multiply the magnification of the eyepiece lens by the magnification of the objective lens 10x 40x Example: Eyepiece: 10x Objective: 40x Total magnification: 10x40 = 400
