1 Vibrational Sum-Frequency probe of interfacial electron transfer dynamics
Tianquan Lian, Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA 30322 System: c θ x z TiO2 (001) Vibration Sum Frequency Generation (SFG) spectroscopy is a surface selective and sensitive technique for recording the vibration spectrum of adsorbates at the interface The spectrum of ReC0A on the Rutile TiO2 (001) surface, a model system for dye sensitized oxide nanocrystalline thin films, has been measured by SFG. By modeling the orientation dependence of SFG response and comparing to our experimental spectra, we can determine the adsorption geometry of the molecule on the surface. Our result shows that, for ReC0A, the C axis of the molecule is within 11o to the surface normal. This experimental finding will be used to test theoretical models of the adsorbate/TiO2 interface. Ongoing studies are using SFG as a time-dependent probe to study ultrafast electron transfer dynamics of the ReC0A/TiO2 (001) interface. c ReC0A SFG Spectra:
