5 Balancing our feelings with our mind

6 Hebrews 10:8-10 (NIV) First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.  And by that will, we have been made holy (sanctified) through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

7 Everyone who believes is made holy in the sight of God.

8 It is a completed work with an effect that continues.
Believe Made Holy Paid in full

9 Hebrews 10:11-14 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.  For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are (made holy) sanctified.

10 Everyone who believes is made holy in the sight of God.
Everyone who is made holy is perfected in the sight of God …forever! Paid in full

11 Hebrews 10:15-18 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

12 Everyone who believes is made holy in the sight of God.
Everyone made holy is forever perfected in the sight of God. Everyone holy and perfected is also eternally forgiven. Col. 2:13 Paid in full

13 God sees believers as holy, perfected, and forgiven.
Elsewhere, we are also said to be righteous (Rom. 5:1) and complete (Col. 2:10). Paid in full

14 The basis of all of this is the finality of the sacrifice of Christ.
(Heb. 10; Rom. 5:1-11) When I believe, I’m joined to Christ and His work (Romans 6:1-14) Paid in full

15 His final sacrifice made permanent my eternal standing.
Paid in full

16 All who believe enjoy an “in Christ” relationship to God the Father.
That is how God sees me. How I feel doesn’t determine my relationship to God, He does! Paid in full

17 When we sin, we feel a variety of emotions.

18 But, no matter how I feel, my relationship with God is not determined by feelings.
It is determined by God. So, what about when I sin? Paid in full

19 1 John 1:5-7 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

20 1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

21 Relationship with God cannot be broken.
Fellowship with God can be broken. Paid in full

22 My behavior cannot end eternal realities God creates. John 6:33-35
When I believe, He gives me eternal life. Paid in full

23 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
John 6:33-35 …“The bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

24 When I believe in Christ, an eternal reality is created.
I am given life that will never end! If it can end for any reason, either He lied or could not give what He promised! Paid in full

25 1 John 1:8-9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

26 1 John exists to tell believers how to have fellowship with God – 1 John 1:3-4
If I fail to confess my sin, my fellowship with God is broken, but my relationship is intact. Paid in full

27 If I see my sin as God sees it, as wrong, God promises three things will occur:
He will forgive it every time and He is right to forgive it and Any other sins are also cleansed Paid in full

28 However, no matter how I feel, eternal realities are still true!
Self-hatred, disappointment, and frustration are normal reactions to sin. However, no matter how I feel, eternal realities are still true! To deny them is to deny the truth of Scripture! Paid in full

29 My relationship with God, my assurance, is the basis for my growth!
Assurance leads to growth! Paid in full

30 If we believe we can lose what God has eternally given, or become convinced we never had it, proper growth is hindered. Paid in full

31 Some would say they believe and have eternal life because of:
Their commitment to Christ Their baptism Their lifestyle Of course, no one should have assurance who has not believed in Christ alone to give them life. Paid in full

32 Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is.
Many have never believed in Christ alone for eternal life; they are “false professors”. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is. When one depends on other things to give them life, they do not have it. Paid in full

33 We lack nothing in our relationship with Christ!
Because of the Cross, the work of Christ is final and we are complete in Him. Col. 2:10 We lack nothing in our relationship with Christ! So, when we sin… Paid in full

34 We approach God on the basis of our relationship that He has created in Christ when we believed.
When we confess, we are forgiven. That’s true, even when we don’t feel like it is true. Paid in full

35 Who can come any other way?
The finality of the work of the cross means a permanence of relationship! I come on that basis! Who can come any other way? Paid in full

36 My feelings often don’t reflect the reality of who I am in Christ!
James 1:23

37 Feelings don’t define our relationship with God, He does.

38 For that, we can all be thankful!
