3 e Phonics What is Phonics? Why do we teach it? VIDEO

4 e Speed Sounds Sounds are taught in sets – See sets 1, 2 and 3 on the table When two or three letters make one sound we call them ‘Special Friends’ Sounds are taught with an accompanying phrase. The first 10 minutes of every Fred Time teaches/reviews speed sounds. PURE SOUNDS VIDEO

5 e Speed Sounds The speed sounds chart for all groups. Becomes more complex after set 2.

6 e Storybooks 1. 2. 3. The second part of every Phonics lesson helps children to use their sounds by reading stories containing them. Red words Green words Each book is read 3 times to develop a ‘storyteller voice’ Questions and discussion help the children to understand what they have read.

7 e Spelling VIDEO Read Write Inc. Spelling is a 30-minutes-a-day programme covering all the spelling requirements of the National Curriculum Using a proven approach underpinned by phonics, the programme is for children in Years 2–6 (P3–7) and includes preparation for the statutory spelling assessments in England.

8 Six-weekly tests e Groupings – according to ability
How we know what group your child is in. What is Fresh Start? Everyone in the school does Fred Time at the same time four mornings/week.
