1 Interfacial Electron Transfer One Molecule at a Time Oliver L.A. Monti
Using single molecule microscopy under highly controlled conditions, we are investigating what mechanisms govern interfacial electron transfer in a solid state dye sensitized solar cell model. This novel technique allows us to gain detailed insight into what processes have a negative impact on light-induced charge separation and solar cell efficiency. Single Molecules on Sc2O3/GaN We found that molecules sample a very diverse range of interactions with the wide-bandgap semi- Molecular Charge Transfer Report Strongly Non-Exponential Kinetics conductor leading to strongly non-exponential charge generation kinetics, questioning the dominant mechanistic picture for light-induced charge transfer in dye sensitized solar cells. For the 1st time we will be able to investigate the causes for these complex processes. THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA LAB MONTI Department of Chemistry
