2. Kinetic Particle Theory
Kinetic Particle Theory: The idea that the states and behaviors of matter are caused by the energy/movement of particles (atoms and molecules)
Theory = the best idea we have based on the evidence available to us

3. Kinetic Energy
Kinetic Energy: the energy a particle or substance has because of its movement
More kinetic energy = more movement
If a substance gets more kinetic energy, the particles will move faster and spread out

4. Solids Lowest kinetic energy Particles are packed tightly together
Particles vibrate in place but do not move
Particles are packed tightly together

Particles vibrate and also slide past each other
