1. Finding Names
In 1959, most temples were only open for 2 sessions per day. Why?
Not enough family names were available from the patrons or the Gen. Dept.
Women could only do an endowment session if they brought a family name.

3. 2. The Time required to Clear Names
From 1922 on, all family names had to be cleared through the Temple Index Burea. Processing names through the Gen. Dept. sometimes took up to 2 years.
In 1961, 42% of family group sheets were rejected; 26% were duplicates.

4. 3. Duplication of Ordinances

In 1943, during the first six months, 546,000 names were checked at the Index Bureau—211,00 had been previously completed!
Analogy: Like kissing your girlfriend’s picture—does something for you but nothing for her!.
In 2005, President Hinckley expressed his concern with this problem in General Conference.

1. Enter information into PAF. Home Family History Center Temple
2. Select individuals to do temple work for.
3. Check ordinance dates against FamilySearch records.
4. Create a GEDCOM or backup file.
5. Write the GEDCOM or backup file to disk.
6. Take the disk to a family history center.
7. Run the GEDCOM or backup through TempleReady for updates.
8. Manually search the Internet IGI for updated information.
9. Process names in TempleReady.
10. Fix any errors, and reprocess in TempleReady.
11. Create a TempleReady file.
12. Write a TempleReady file to disk.
13. Take the TempleReady disk to the temple.
14. The temple prints cards for ordinance work.
15. Do the work; wait for the IGI updates.
16. Update PAF with the new ordinance information.

8. 5. Responsibility for Redeeming the Dead (Family) shifted OFF of the shoulders of Church members.
By the church supplying Temple File Names, too many members go to the temple to do another family’s temple work and forget their own ancestral family!
One person calls this “Temple Welfare!”

1) In 1962, a new approach was usedto supply names to the temples. Names could be “harvested” from the Granite Mountain Record Vault.
